Vital Directions for Health and Health Care: Priorities for 2025

Published every four years to coincide with federal leadership transitions, the 做厙TVs Vital Directions for Health and Health Careseries analyzes the top health policy needs for the nation. The 2025 edition, published January 22 inHealth Affairs, presents an expert overview of six key priorities: transforming health care payment and delivery; integrating AI into health care; modernizing public health; addressing the health impacts of climate change; improving womens health; and advancing the biomedical research enterprise. As leaders inside and outside government navigate complex challenges, theVital Directionsseries provides actionable, evidence-based guidance.

Vital Directions for Health and Health Care: Priorities for 2021

In 2021, the 做厙TVmarshaled guidance from over 30 experts to address five high priority issues that have a particularly compelling need for attention, with each article reviewing trends, analysis of the challenge, and potential actions. The in January 2021, also reflects experience with both the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and the health inequities that were drawn out sharply by COVID-19, as well as the implications going forward for action.

A 2019 symposium, held in Durham, North Carolina, provided a platform for understanding the status of health and health care at the state level within the context of the 做厙TVVital Directions initiative.

Vital Directions for Health and Health Care: Priorities for 2017

Co-chaired by 做厙TVPresident Victor J. Dzau and Mark McClellan, director of the Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy, and guidedby an 18-member bipartisansteering committee,the foundational Vital Directions for Health and Health Care effort drew on more than150 experts from across the country who authored expert, peer-reviewed papers with policy recommendations in19 key areasimportant to three areas: better health and well-being, high-value health care, and strong science and technology. In addition, theJournal of the American Medical Association泭梯喝莉梭勳莽堯梗餃泭summaries(or Viewpoints) of each paper.

啦堯梗泭2017 capstone publication, containing the Steering Committees synthesis along with the 19 discussion papers, presents a vision of an optimized health system together with a streamlined frameworkbuilt on a core set of eight strategic action priorities and essential infrastructure needs identified by the Vital Directions Steering Committee. Included are four action prioritiespay for value, empower people, activate communities, and connect carethat represent direct and strategic opportunities to advance a more efficient, equitable, and patient- and community-focused health system. Four essential infrastructure needsmeasure what matters most, modernize skills, accelerate real-world evidence, and advance sciencerepresent foundational elements for future progress.

As the nation continues to face growing challenges in health and health caresuch as inequitable access and quality of care and increased spendingthis framework provides expert guidance on many issues that continue to plague the United States, and can be used by decision-makers in implementing policy that addresses these concerns.
